In an evening filled with insights, inspiration, and inclusive spirit, the Bury LGBTQI+ Forum held its first book Q&A session featuring the acclaimed author Matt Cain, on Friday, 2nd February, at the Bury Art Museum. The event, which started with a buffet and drinks on arrival, drew a diverse crowd of members of the LGBTQI+ community, family members and supporters, centred around Cain’s latest literary offering, providing attendees with a unique opportunity to delve into the experiences shaping his work.

Matt Cain, known for his compelling books that explore the complexities of identity, love, and resilience, read select passages from his new book, setting the tone for an evening of profound dialogue and connection. The reading was not just a showcase of Cain’s literary prowess but also an invitation into the heart of his vision, offering a glimpse into the lives of characters that resonate deeply with the LGBTQI+ experience.

Accompanying Cain was David Catterall, a prominent figure in the LGBTQI+ community and within Bury. Catterall’s presence added a rich layer of discourse to the event, bridging the gap between literature and activism. Together, they engaged in a candid conversation about the challenges and triumphs of LGBTQI+ representation in media and literature, encouraging questions from the audience that sparked meaningful and personal exchanges.

The Q&A session revealed not just the depth of Cain’s research and dedication to authenticity but also his personal journey as an LGBTQI+ individual navigating the realms of storytelling and visibility. Audience members were particularly moved by Cain’s reflections on his views and beliefs within the community.

The Bury Art Museum provided a fitting backdrop for this landmark event, with its commitment to cultural inclusivity and support for the arts underscoring the evening’s themes. Attendees were not only treated to a night of stimulating conversation but also had the chance to explore the museum’s exhibits, further enriching their experience and resulting in many attendees planning to return to the museum to see further exhibits.

As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that the Bury LGBTQI+ Forum’s first book Q&A with Matt Cain had left an indelible mark on all who attended paving the way for more such gatherings that celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of the Bury LGBTQI+ community.
